Peer Consultants & Mentors

Peer learning and mentoring is powerful. Students who've just taken a course remember the cognitive connections or academic skills that allowed them to succeed.

Students who've encountered an unfamiliar personal or academic situation and persevered can act as role models, while providing valuable guidance and feedback to their peers.

Our undergraduate staff members complete a rigorous training program that addresses topics such as: cognitive and learning science, evidence-based strategies for engaging learners, diversity, critical thinking, interpersonal communication, and collaboration. We teach our peer consultants how to help students transition to life on campus and facilitate meaningful connections with faculty and staff.

Academic Services

The Learning Commons is a multidisciplinary space. We understand that different fields have their own tools of inquiry, methods for constructing knowledge, and pedagogical traditions. Through our peer learning consultants, we offer students a dynamic, socio-academic space to find community, learn from one another, make connections between varied concepts, and apply their coursework to their personal goals. Collaboration with faculty (and their academic departments) allows us to provide customized training for learning consultants in specific subject areas.
